Summary of Services

Risk Management Audit

PRI will be pleased to conduct a Risk Management Audit of your insurance program. Experienced investigators will review your risk management protocols, policies and procedures and occurrence data and offer suggestions and recommendations that will enhance the loss control efforts that are currently underway. This service, which would take approximately 1-2 days, will be provided at no charge.

Customized Surveys & Inservice Education Programs
PRI will carry out department surveys upon your request. One of the many benefits of the survey process is in providing our clients with information that will enable you to meet the standards set by various regulatory bodies. We will also provide inservice education programs at no additional cost.

Insurance Claims Audit
On a consulting basis, PRI can conduct, at your request, an audit of claims files for prior insurance years. The audit will focus particularly on those cases with substantial reserves. Experience has shown this to be extremely helpful to clients offering insight as to the time element in settling cases and the impact on your total loss experience. Factors targeted for review include legal correspondence, expert testimony, reserve setting history and the defense posture selected for each case. For facilities with self-insurance retention funds, PRI can assist you with managing the litigation process, a complex, highly specialized field that can yield exorbitant costs - both in time and expense - when not aggressively monitored.

Claims Management Program
Once a claim has been received or if we have determined that an occurrence or related inquiry may mature into a claim, PRI will apply the necessary internal resources to establish reserves and sequester information that will enhance the defensibility of the case. You will receive quarterly loss runs that will reflect, at that time, the current status of all reported suits and claims, including reserves.

Investigative Services and Risk Management Support
As part of our underwriting package, PRI will provide the services of a Risk Control Coordinator (RCC) who will investigate your potential and actual malpractice cases. The RCCs who are assigned to our hospital clients are registered nurses with several years of malpractice investigation experience. Under the direction of your Risk Manager or other designated individual, the RCC will review occurrence reports, attorneys’ requests for information, adverse outcomes and notices of claims on a routine basis. Appropriate reports and summaries of this work product will be generated and shared with you for tracking and trending purposes.

Legal Defense of Lawsuits
PRI will assign legal counsel to defend all claims covered under your insurance policy. Should you have special requests as regard the assignment of counsel, please let us know so that we may tailor a program that will suit your needs.

Special Case Conferences
PRI prides itself on its ability to aggressively monitor malpractice claims and dispose of frivolous cases in as expedient a manner as possible. In the event of a high-exposure claim, we will convene multidisciplinary claims conferences that will include our in-house claims investigators and other key personnel to review the fact patterns of each case and to recommend an appropriate plan of action as regards defense.

Legal Support
As part of our value-added services, PRI will provide, at no charge, legal assistance to support your Risk Management program. James Tuffin, our in-house Counsel, and his staff will be available during business hours to assist you with any risk management or insurance related matters. Advice concerning documentation, informed consent procedures and matters related to malpractice prevention and defense can be readily obtained on an as-needed basis.
